How to Book
Step 1: → [Contact Me]
Get in touch by phone, email, or via the contact form. I'll respond as soon as possible to arrange your MIAM.
Step 2: Book Your MIAM
We'll find a time that works for you. I will send you a confirmation email with:
-
The date and time of your appointment
-
A link (if online) or the address (if in person)
-
My terms and conditions
-
Payment details
Step 3: Attend Your MIAM
Your MIAM lasts approximately one hour. It's a confidential, no-obligation conversation where we explore your situation and whether mediation is right for you.
Step 4: If You Proceed to Mediation
If both parties agree to mediate, we'll arrange your first joint session. I will confirm the date, time, and format (in person, online, separate rooms, etc.) and send you payment details for your first session.
Payment Terms
Payment is required 14 days in advance of any session. This applies to:
-
MIAMs
-
Joint mediation sessions
-
Any work scheduled between sessions (e.g., drafting)
I will send you an invoice with payment details when your appointment is confirmed. Your session is reserved once payment is received.
Cancellations & Rearranging
I understand that things come up.
If you can't make your session, please let me know and I will do my best to rearrange.
If we're unable to find a suitable alternative date, or if I don't receive notice of your non-attendance, the session fee will not be refunded.
My aim is to work with you, not against you. If something genuinely prevents you from attending, please reach out and we'll find a way forward.
Who Pays?
There are a few ways to manage payment, and we'll discuss what works best for your situation during your MIAM.
Each person pays for themselves
You pay for your own MIAM and your share of any joint sessions. This is the most common arrangement and ensures each person maintains their own financial independence throughout the process.
Mixed arrangements
You can agree between yourselves how to split costs—for example, one pays for the MIAMs, then you share session costs equally. I just need to know who is paying for what so I can invoice correctly.
One person paying for both
In some situations, one person may choose to cover the cost for both parties. This is something we would discuss carefully during your MIAM to ensure it feels safe, appropriate, and freely chosen—not a reflection of imbalance or control.
All payment arrangements are discussed and agreed during the MIAM stage, before any joint sessions begin. If at any point you have concerns about payment arrangements or safety, please raise them with me—I am here to support a process that works for both of you as fairly and safely as possible.
Financial Support & Reduced Fees
As a Community Interest Company (CIC), Talking Peace is committed to making mediation accessible wherever possible. If cost is a barrier, please know that I want to work with you, not against you.
I am a private practice and do not offer legal aid. However, if you are eligible for legal aid (you can check here and bring evidence such as Universal Credit documentation), I am open to adjusting fees on a case-by-case basis. We can discuss this during your MIAM.
If you are unable to self-fund mediation, I have a small fund to subsidise sessions for those in genuine need. Again, this is something we can explore during your MIAM—just ask.
There is no reduction in fee for the MIAM itself, but for ongoing sessions we can explore what might be possible.
Government Voucher Scheme
If you have a child under 18 and are separating, you may be eligible for the Government Voucher Scheme, which offers up to £500 towards mediation costs.
I am registered to accept these vouchers. We can discuss eligibility during your MIAM and, if appropriate, I can help you apply.
What If I Can't Afford to Start?
If cost is a barrier, please don't let that stop you from reaching out. I offer a free 15-minute telephone call to explore your situation and talk through options. Even if we don't proceed with mediation, I can help signpost you to other sources of support.
